City of Calabash

Things To Do In Calabash, North Carolina

Calabash is a small coastal town with big charm for those who love the outdoors. Located on the banks of the Calabash River in southeastern North Carolina, Calabash is home to some of the best golf courses, charter fishing fleets, and seafood eateries anywhere around.

This community’s claim to fame began during the WWII era when the seafood restaurant business birthed in Calabash, North Carolina. Patrons loved the unique Calabash flavor of the seafood. Soon, the town became known as “The Seafood Capital of the World.” Yet, Calabash’s history goes back centuries earlier to the late 1600’s when plantation owners utilized the river as a way to ship crops. Later, in the early 1900’s, the timber industry saw Calabash as a point of origin to float logs down the river.

Today, Calabash is a vacationer’s paradise. It has many attractions including many fishing charters. Hurricane Fleet, Fish Screamer and Lucky Strike Charters take patrons out into the Atlantic Ocean for fishing excursions that include catches of King Mackerel, Bonito, Cobia, Amberjack, Dolphin, Shark, Spanish Mackerel, Black Sea

Bass, Grey Snapper, Grouper, Barracuda, Sailfish, Marlin and more. Most offer half day or full day adventures with some providing for customized times. Rod, reel and bait are provided.
